Saturday evening, March 6, 2010: It
was an exciting evening of glitter and glamour as guests enjoyed the
Hollywood extravaganza, presented by the CASA of Collin County Voice
for Children Gala, sponsored by Ewing Autohaus, the Mercedes Benz
dealer of Plano. The award winning evening included silent and live
auction, celebrity impersonators, gourmet dinner and entertainment
by the Think Big! With Bulletproof Brass Band – benefitting the
abused and neglected children of Collin County.
The gala Hollywood theme derived
from the Academy Awards held the following night. Guests entered the
InterContinental Hotel Dallas passing down the red carpet flanked by
two oversized gold Oscar statues. A silent auction with fine art,
sports memorabilia, jewelry, clothes, accessories, services and
restaurant gift certificates enticed guests to spend freely in
support of Collin County foster care children. Celebrity
impersonators – Elizabeth Taylor, Groucho Marx, Marilyn Monroe and
Humphrey Bogart entertained guests.
As the Crystal Ballroom doors opened
for the dinner program, guests entered into an elegant vintage
Hollywood setting. Tables topped with movie clapper boards, red
roses, white ostrich plums and silver lamour cloths enhanced the
Hollywood theme as guests took their seats. The stage, decorated
much like a sophisticated Hollywood supper club or Oscars party of
the 40’s and 50’s held the Think Big! With Bulletproof Brass band,
performing musical favorites.
Comedic emcee, David Ahearn, from
the comedy improvisational troupe Four Day Weekend, helped move the
evening program along. The program included a live auction –
offering a Spa Day, exciting trips, fine jewelry, a wall of fine
wine, a pair of Jan Barboglio candelabra and more. Gala co-chairs,
Jenni Tran and Cheryl Buckles welcomed guests and thanked them,
title sponsor Ewing Autohaus and the many other sponsors for their
support. CASA of Collin County Board President, McKinney Police
Captain Randy Roland, discussed one of the many child abuse cases,
setting up a moving video that filmed the adoptive parents of the
young girl rescued from a life of abuse. CASA Executive Director,
Susan Etheridge introduced the Collin County Bench Bar Voice for
Children Award recipient. The evening closed with dancing to the
musical accompaniment of the band.
Special thanks go out to all the gala sponsors, event attendees and
anyone who donated or volunteered their time to make this special
evening a huge success. Gala sponsors included Ewing Autohaus,
